your site. Recently my seaget external drive from 2008 stopped working and i
see that the site says this board may not fix my problem. Anyway If anyone
has any suggestions on which board may substite in thats fine. Also i read
on your site that you must firm-ware upgrade the drive. I am very
unexperianced in that area of computing. I have nver had a problem like this
before.

1. WD5000BMVV

I have this HDD with USB PCB wich the client said that it was not recognized and it didn’t fell down.
When I plug it in, no spin, no noises, nothing.
I tested with a SATA PCB, still nothing but I ordered 2 new PCB: a Sata and a USB.
When they came, I attach the new PCB’s and it spins. GREAT!!!
Wrong: after swaping U12, the HDD doesn’t spin. Nothing. I have tried swaping U12 and U14 of the USB PBC and still nothing.
With the donor PCB with it’s donor ROM it spins….
What should I do??

Let me clarify my examples I had, 2 times so far I’ve had this problem with WD5000BMVV:
Patient PCB was USB: 2060 701675 002
Donor PCB was SATA: 2060 771672 001

2060-701675-004
Patient was spinning with original USB PCB. I moved U12 to donor SATA PCB and drive does not even spin up.
The process of moving U12 was 100% correct, so the problem was not in the soldering job.

Fact : Just fixed one -few minutes before- with PCB # : 2060-701675-004 REV P1 ( USB interface ) with donor PCB # : 2060-771672-004 REV A ( SATA interface )
the drive had some damaged modules so I replaced the PCBs and worked on SATA interface after swapping U12 only ( theres no place for U14 on the SATA PCB ) then after fixing the drive back the USB PCB, and the drive now is working like a charm.

I’m looking for western digital PCB version: 2060-771640-002 REV P2

-the PCB must have the exact version number
-in good working condition without cracks / burns / missing components

3. WD5000AADS-00S9B0 PCB burned, need replacement & soldering

A customer’s Western Digital drive isn’t spinning or being detected by BIOS.
Model: WD5000AADS-00S9B0 {1 platter, yay!}
Date: 06 AUG 2010
DCM: HBRCNT2AGB
DCX: 5007S9495
Made: In Thailand
PCB Marking: 2060-771640-003 REV P1
PCB Sticker: 2061-771640-N03 02P
Customer’s house had a power surge, and his power supply and motherboard blew. On the hard drive PCB, the Smooth L7251 3.1 is clearly fried, and a few other parts are possibly discolored. In the process of frying, this chip melted the foam pretty well in the area. It does have an 8 pin EEPROM at U12. Hopefully the EEPROM is unaffected. Also, hopefully it died before affecting the motor and/or heads.
I already had another WD5000AADS-00S9B0, but unfortunately it’s PCB is 2060-701640-001 REV A {2061-701640-300 AAD1}, and is the version without an 8 pin EEPROM at U12. (As expected, no luck with it.)
Do you have the correct PCB available? If so, what would you charge for it — and for you to move the EEPROM over if I mailed you the fried PCB? I have very limited soldering experience and would prefer to have both taken care of.

2060-701477-001

I need to recover data on WD drive – PCB fried by faulty power cable (will not spin up, not recognized in BIOS). I wonder if you can help me with this question?

My board:
WD5000AAKS-00TMA0
DCM: HHNCNV2CAB
PCB: 2060-701477-001 rev A
MCU is Marvel 88i6745-TFJ1

Donor board:
WD5000AAKS-00TMA0 (exact match)
DCM: HBRCNV2AB (close match?)
PCB: 2060-701477-001 REV A (exact match)
Since this PCB has Marvel chip and NO external eprom/BIOS (no 8pin chip at U12), I cannot transplant the adaptive data.
1) What are the chances this PCB will work if directly transplanted (without copying adaptive data)?
2) Is there a risk of damaging the drive/data if transplanted with wrong adaptive data ?

2060-701477-001

2. WD5000AAKS-00TMA0 issues. PCB? Diode short? Please help!

I found a duplicate drive. Same Model number, different manufactured date, and the numbers on the PCB were almost the same.
Original PCB –
Sticker – 2061-701477-800 AC
Board – PWB 2060-701477-001 Rev A
Replacement PCB –
Sticker – 2061-701477-800 AF
Board – PWB 2060-701477-001 Rev A
When I swapped them out, the drive in question powers up and stays powered on and sounds good, but it cannot be seen by the BIOS or the OS. This is either USB or internal SATA.

3. Resuscitating fried PCB logic board

A faulty cable from my power supply fried my hard drive – it will not spin up or register in BIOS. I have been researching “PCB or logic board transplants“ all over the net but cannot find clear answer if this will work in my situation:

My board is:

WD5000AAKS-00TMA0
DCM: HHNCNV2CAB
PCB stamped: 2060-701477-001 rev A

The closest PCB on ebay matches identically EXCEPT for DCM:

DCM: HBRCNV2AB

(4,5,6,6,7th character match which I understand are the vital ones for PCB transplant)

My question is : if I attach the ebay PCB to my  hard drive, will it work to recover my data É I have read mixed comments about this.  Some people state that you need to transplant the eprom from the dead PCB (an 8 pin chip). However, my PCB does not have a separate eprom chip – I think the data is stored within the Marvel 88i6745-TFJ1 chip which I cannot re-solder (hundreds of pins!).

Is there any danger in attemping to use this PCB on my dead driveÉ  IE can you do damage to the data on platters or make future recovery more difficult.

1. Samsung Hard drive PCB – Hi im trying to get my hard drive to work, im hoping its just the board is bust, i plugged the wrong power cable into it so a power surge blew my media player and possibly the hard drive. I got a new player but it wont power up fully, it tries but then turns off, no noise from drive. I did some looking around on youtube and i thought i would try replacing the PCB on the hard drive.

1. Western digital circuit boards buy – Hello, I’m looking for a PCB for a 500 GB from Western Digitel. Product Date is 26 July 2008. Model # WD5000AAKB-00YASAO. Thanks for any Help.

Western Digital Hard Drive Circuit Board

2. Wanted: One Western digital hard drive circuit board for WD5000AAJS – 22KA0 – Does anyone have a Western Digital hard drive circuit board for the WD5000AAJS – 22TKA0

3. Burnt hard drive controller (Western Digital WD5000KS-00MNB0) – My 500GB Western Digital WD5000KS-00MNB0 hard drive suddenly died. No warnings, no SMART impending failure alerts, nothing. It was working without a hitch the last time I used it. Then I powered on the computer a day later and it simply disappeared from the face of this earth.
It doesn’t show in the BIOS and it doesn’t appear in Windows. It doesn’t work on another rig and it doesn’t even work with an external casing. When I put my ear to the device when powered on with the external casing, there’s no activity going on. The platters don’t turn neither are there any sort of ticks or other noises. I am willing to go to any lengths as this 500GB hard drive had all my preciously collected music (~80GB of my best music as I only keep what I listen to and discard the rest), lots of HD and non-HD movies, lots of downloads and lots and lots of photos. Someone please shoot me in the head because I don’t have a backup of any of this data Pros, here’s a question: What are the chances that my data is intact on the platters and retrieveable? Should I go ahead and order one and replace it myself? Are there any other factors that need to be looked in? Also, all of the WD5000KS-00MNB0 controller boards I’ve found online have different DCM IDs. Take the ebay one for instance – it mentions DCM: HBACAJAAB while my drive’s DCM is HCHCAJAH. Is it required that the DCM IDs need to be exactly the same? If anyone here has tried this with success do respond here.

WD PCB Replacement

1. PCB Replacement – I connected my WD6400AAKS Caviar Blue to a USB adapter, a smoke started coming out, it got extremely hot at the power connector. Looks like The PCB has a short. If I buy a replacement board, what are the requirements? Does it have to have the same exact model, DCM, LBA, etc? Please advise. Your response will be greatly appreciated. Many THX.

2. Western Digital WD500AAKS PCB Repair – Have an external hard drive, mdl WD5000AAKS-00TMA0 It ceased working one day, completely, no power. The PCB was burnt out, highly scorched in places so i changed it (an disposed of the broken one)
The new PCB was from exactly the same model, manufactured at a similar date. The drive now spins up and runs but unfortunately i can’t get any information from it. Cant get it to detect mounted in a PC, through the external carriage it detects the disk but doesnt recognize the size. Through Western Digital diagnosis the disk is detected but again no repair is possible, no size detected etc. If i boot up in something like disk part no detection occurs.
I’m all out of ideas and changing disk heads is a last last last resort. Can someone give me some pointers? does the PCB have a firmware with it as when i boot up another disk in WD Diagnosis model number, serial number etc is displayed.

3. Quick question about a certain WD PCB – Ive found a PCB replacement for my WD but i dont really know about the last numbers for example my model is Western Digital 80GB WD800JB-00JJC0, 2061-701292-A00 AP
but the one i found is Western Digital 80GB WD800JB-00JJC0, 2061-701292-A00 BD and also the one i have PWB 2060-701292-000 REV A but the one i found has PWB 2060-701292-002 REV A. I was wondering will that BD vs AP mean a big difference and on the PWB section will that 0 vs the 2 at the end make a difference?
