1. Samsung Hard drive PCB – Hi im trying to get my hard drive to work, im hoping its just the board is bust, i plugged the wrong power cable into it so a power surge blew my media player and possibly the hard drive. I got a new player but it wont power up fully, it tries but then turns off, no noise from drive. I did some looking around on youtube and i thought i would try replacing the PCB on the hard drive.

1. Western digital circuit boards buy – Hello, I’m looking for a PCB for a 500 GB from Western Digitel. Product Date is 26 July 2008. Model # WD5000AAKB-00YASAO. Thanks for any Help.

Western Digital Hard Drive Circuit Board

2. Wanted: One Western digital hard drive circuit board for WD5000AAJS – 22KA0 – Does anyone have a Western Digital hard drive circuit board for the WD5000AAJS – 22TKA0

3. Burnt hard drive controller (Western Digital WD5000KS-00MNB0) – My 500GB Western Digital WD5000KS-00MNB0 hard drive suddenly died. No warnings, no SMART impending failure alerts, nothing. It was working without a hitch the last time I used it. Then I powered on the computer a day later and it simply disappeared from the face of this earth.
It doesn’t show in the BIOS and it doesn’t appear in Windows. It doesn’t work on another rig and it doesn’t even work with an external casing. When I put my ear to the device when powered on with the external casing, there’s no activity going on. The platters don’t turn neither are there any sort of ticks or other noises. I am willing to go to any lengths as this 500GB hard drive had all my preciously collected music (~80GB of my best music as I only keep what I listen to and discard the rest), lots of HD and non-HD movies, lots of downloads and lots and lots of photos. Someone please shoot me in the head because I don’t have a backup of any of this data Pros, here’s a question: What are the chances that my data is intact on the platters and retrieveable? Should I go ahead and order one and replace it myself? Are there any other factors that need to be looked in? Also, all of the WD5000KS-00MNB0 controller boards I’ve found online have different DCM IDs. Take the ebay one for instance – it mentions DCM: HBACAJAAB while my drive’s DCM is HCHCAJAH. Is it required that the DCM IDs need to be exactly the same? If anyone here has tried this with success do respond here.

1. PCB Replacement – I connected my WD6400AAKS Caviar Blue to a USB adapter, a smoke started coming out, it got extremely hot at the power connector. Looks like The PCB has a short. If I buy a replacement board, what are the requirements? Does it have to have the same exact model, DCM, LBA, etc? Please advise. Your response will be greatly appreciated. Many THX.

2. Western Digital WD500AAKS PCB Repair – Have an external hard drive, mdl WD5000AAKS-00TMA0 It ceased working one day, completely, no power. The PCB was burnt out, highly scorched in places so i changed it (an disposed of the broken one)
The new PCB was from exactly the same model, manufactured at a similar date. The drive now spins up and runs but unfortunately i can’t get any information from it. Cant get it to detect mounted in a PC, through the external carriage it detects the disk but doesnt recognize the size. Through Western Digital diagnosis the disk is detected but again no repair is possible, no size detected etc. If i boot up in something like disk part no detection occurs.
I’m all out of ideas and changing disk heads is a last last last resort. Can someone give me some pointers? does the PCB have a firmware with it as when i boot up another disk in WD Diagnosis model number, serial number etc is displayed.

3. Quick question about a certain WD PCB – Ive found a PCB replacement for my WD but i dont really know about the last numbers for example my model is Western Digital 80GB WD800JB-00JJC0, 2061-701292-A00 AP
but the one i found is Western Digital 80GB WD800JB-00JJC0, 2061-701292-A00 BD and also the one i have PWB 2060-701292-000 REV A but the one i found has PWB 2060-701292-002 REV A. I was wondering will that BD vs AP mean a big difference and on the PWB section will that 0 vs the 2 at the end make a difference?

2. Data Recovery from a hard disk with Damaged PCB – If your hard disk is not powering on (i.e you cannot hear any noises at all coming from the hard disk) or you smell a burning smokey smell coming from the disk, chances are the PCB is damaged.

Common causes of PCB damage:

  • Plugging in the wrong power supply.
  • Incorrectly connecting the power cable.
  • A power surge.
  • Some metal object making contact with the PCB while the hard disk is on.
  • Breaking off components while removing/installing your hard drive.
  • Liquid damage.
  • Overheating due to a malfunction on the PCB.

1. WD5000AAKS Bricked PCB – Hello and thanks in advance for any aid. I have a WD5000AAKS – 00TMA0 DCM – DHNCNV2AHN

Some 6 months ago, while i was installing a fan cooler to another drive (wd250), i connected all of the components in line, on a 12v rail molex with a SATA power splitter, then the fans. After turning on the system it seems like my OEM PSU fried both drive PCBs. I know it probably wouldn’t have been some massive voltage shot through that rail, but i have heard of many people with this problem and i have seen them getting help through this forum.

So what do i do? Do i search for a PCB of a similar DCM and somehow reprogram it? (I have no idea about how to reprogram it)

I also would rather not get another PCB only to try to sholder the chip from my dead one to the new working one knowing i might destroy both.

I can probably unscrew the PCB and take pics of it and show it to some of you people that might know what i should do. I am ok with sholdering this already ruined PCB. I don’t have a multimeter but if i absulutely need one then i will get one.

2. WD5000AAKS PCB burned component – WD5000AAKS – 00TMA0. Burned capacitor(?) C12. There is black gunk on one end of it and even a burn mark on the soft padding material.

Perhaps I could try to replace the part if I knew where to get one.

3. Changing Western Digital PCB’s - I am looking for some help with regards to changing a western digital pcb. In this case the drive in question is: WD5000AAJS.
In the past all i have had to do is find a donor pcb, de-solder the u12 Rom chip, and put the original rom chip in its place.Depending on the condition of the drive, this has worked most of the time. When removing the pcb from the above drive(WD5000AAJS)there is no rom chip, just an empty space marked U12.

3. Samsung HD154UI circuit board repair – I have a Samsung HDD as above which was in a USB enclosure which my son used for storing his photos. The other night he plugged in the wrong PSU and managed to fry the thing Needless to say, he hadn’t backed it up. So, I’ve got the drive out of the enclosure and tried it in another one, but it won’t power up at all, in fact it seems to stop the PSU from working??? Do you know if there are any fuses or other things that might have been damaged and cause this? Are there any circuit diagrams out there for this drive? Can I buy another drive of the same type and swap the boards over, just to get the data off?
